About Dr. DeGroot
Dr. Melanie DeGroot, M.D., who grew up in IL, received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Illinois in Urbana, IL, and her medical degree in 1987 from The University of Health Sciences from The Chicago Medical School (now known as The Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine & Science) in North Chicago, IL. She completed her Pediatric residency with the U.S. Air Force at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. DeGroot has been practicing since 1990. She spent 4 years overseas with the U.S. Air Force taking care of children of servicemen and women in both inpatient and outpatient settings, followed by an additional year at Maxwell Air Force Base in Maryland. She then separated from the Air Force and moved to Pennsylvania where she practiced inpatient and outpatient pediatrics for 18 years before relocating to Texas. Dr. DeGroot is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and provides a full range of pediatric care from newborn until high school graduation, including well exams, sports physicals, and acute care visits. Dr. DeGroot is married and resides in Katy, Texas. She is the mother of twins, both of whom are in college. Her hobbies include reading a variety of books, experimenting with new recipes, along with hiking and biking on the weekends.
